With the release of iOS 16, your iPhone is now more customizable than ever. Widget revamping and how they integrate with your device layout calls for countless possibilities tailored to how you want to use your device. The new emphasis placed on widgets and their increased functionality has inspired developers to create apps that further enhance the user experience outside of the app.

Widgetsmith is a great example of an app whose developers are looking to capitalize on the popularity of widgets and reformatted lock and home screens by providing users with even more customization options. However, can they improve their app marketing to drive them to the top of search results in the widget space? Let’s take a look at today’s App Store Spotlight to find out.

Widgetsmith - App Metadata

Every developer needs an effective ASO strategy to maximize their app growth potential and adapt to changing market conditions and user needs. The introduction of iOS 16 is the perfect example of how publishers can study new tools given to them to improve their app experience at different stages of the user journey.

However, something that doesn’t change is the importance of optimizing app metadata to maintain relevance and competitiveness in the App Store. We’ve analyzed Widgetsmith’s metadata fields to see where they can improve to increase visibility and downloads.

APP TITLE

When it comes to making a good first impression, an app title can play a big role in providing quick insight into your app and familiarity with their search query. A recommended strategy is to place not only an identifying feature like your app name in the title but title tags as well. Title tags act as short keywords that help users relate the term being searched for with a key feature of your app. A title tag can take the form of a hyper-relevant phrase acting as a call to action or a reference to a core function.

APP SUBTITLE

An app subtitle can act as an insightful preview as to what main features users can expect prior to downloading. It provides a great opportunity to grasp a user’s attention while also providing relevant information in a compact and readily available field.

The existing subtitle does highlight widgets, a popular and relevant feature, but they aren’t the only product offering. Although the field is limited to 30 characters, highlighting the possibility of editing the device lock screen and home screen is a great opportunity to call out another relevant feature that caters to a broader audience.

Widgetsmith - App Creatives

Visual elements are becoming more and more important in user acquisition. Whether for apps, e-commerce stores, or blogs, an illustration of what a user plans to consume facilitates decision-making.

Widgetsmith features are focused on enhancing the existing visual experience of a user’s device to provide something truly unique, but is this communicated well in the app screenshots?

APP SCREENSHOTS

A quality app store screenshot provides insight as to what the in-app experience is like while also giving context to the visual illustration. The developers of Widgetsmith do a good job of displaying the customization options available but are limiting their conversion potential by not explaining the different widget possibilities with relevant copy.

By including a call to action, naming different integrations, and detailing specific widget options, users can easily see the correlation between each widget and how it enhances the overall user experience. Excluding this information simply provides images that do accurately portray the app, but without the useful information needed to clearly understand how it relates to users and their different screen layout interests.

Overall

Any app marketing plan should consider the current state of its market and emerging trends that can potentially change user behavior. Having an App Store Optimization strategy guided by proven best practices increases developers’ chances of succeeding in the long run.

An ASO company can help streamline the entire process and set you on the right path to increased visibility and conversions. With the proper ASO tools and technology at your disposal, you don’t have to worry about being behind on fast-moving industry trends and can stay up-to-date with the best app marketing strategies available.
